We need to teach
In nursery we teach the children through story and rhymes that we speak in words and that words are made up of sounds and these sounds are made up of letters. The Jolly Phonics Scheme is all about teaching the letters of the alphabet as sounds. For example the letter ‘s' would be taught as ‘sss' as in snake, but not ‘ess'.
We introduce the children to a group of sounds at a time. Each sound is taught individually. The letter sound is then introduced through story with the sound in. The children are then taught an action to help them remember the sound. The children practice the letters by painting them, chalking them or writing them in the wet sand. All these activities are designed to help your child remember the sounds and the letters together.
Numbers 
We teach the children number recognition from zero to ten through stories and rhymes. Each number is taught individually. The children are taught action songs to help them remember the numbers. The children will be encourages to practice the numbers by painting them, chalking them, writing them in the wet sand. All these activities are designed to help the child remember the number. We have introduced the children to Ten Town. Within Ten Town, numbers are turned into friendly characters that are memorable from a very early age. Each character has its own simple story and formation rhyme.
